Our Mission
Peninsula Food Runners’ mission is to alleviate hunger and minimize food waste in the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Every day, our volunteers pick up and deliver a wide variety of wonderfully prepared and non-prepared surplus food to community organizations that feed their clients in need.

Gratitude to Patti Van Der Burg, who encourage us to apply to the Mercury News Wishbook Story. Patti believed that our story needed to be told so others too could join in our mission to recover surplus food to feed those in need. Thank you so much, Patti!
Gratitude to Katie Lauer from Bay Area News Group who took the time to listen and understand the work we are trying to accomplish.
For all who stepped up to financially support Peninsula Food Runners and other Wishbook organizations for 2022, thank you so much for your contribution to helping build our communities.
Here is what we are accomplishing
Reduce food insecurities by providing an establish food schedule to feed families and individuals
Divert edible surplus food from landfills to reduce production of harmful household gases
Assist partner agencies by delivering and making food accessible for them to feed their clients
Streamline the donation process by using Chowmatch software. Donors can simply access chowmatch, set up an account, and begin scheduling for their surplus to be picked up. Volunteers will be alerted to help and recipients to be notified to receive food.
Provide flexible volunteer opportunities in hopes to build up the communities they live in
In 2022, Peninsula Food Runners’ provided more than 2,987,883 meals of free food to families in need. In any given week, we deliver over 58,000 meals to shelters, pantries, food banks, schools, homeless programs and low-income families. We are adding restaurants, caterers, supermarkets, food service providers and corporations every day who donate surplus food in the San Francisco Bay Area. We provide a free service to pickup and drop off for our donors and recipients with the help of over 1200 volunteers and staff. Our recipients can expect food on a weekly basis.
